The average listed price for Hope students is £145.02 a week. The listings are sorted by distance, so the cheapest rooms are not always at the top. HEPI and Unipol’s report Student accommodation costs across 10 cities in the UK (HEPI Report 166, October 2023) found that rooms let directly by Liverpool’s largest private providers averaged £140 a week on a 46-week let in 2023/24, with annual rent up 10% on 2021/22. That survey is three academic years old, so treat it as a benchmark and check the current price and contract length on each listing. The nearest building to the Creative Campus is Unity Square on Shaw Street, and none of the listed buildings is close to Hope Park, which the university places about four miles from the city centre.
Liverpool Hope guarantees accommodation on campus to all first-year students, according to the university’s student accommodation pages. That means most people looking at private rooms are Hope students heading into second or third year, starting a postgraduate course or arriving from overseas. HESA figures put Hope at 5,330 students in 2024/25, made up of 4,425 undergraduates and 905 postgraduates.
The properties on Mystudenthalls.com are privately run buildings let to students, the format known as purpose-built student accommodation, and each listing sets out its own facilities, from gyms and cinema rooms to study areas. They take Hope students from every campus and every year of study. Going for private student accommodation means you pick the building, the room type and the neighbourhood, and you can live alongside students from other universities.
Hope’s own university accommodation is on its three campuses and is booked through the university. If you plan to share with friends at another university, the same central buildings appear on the Liverpool John Moores University and University of Liverpool pages, and every Liverpool listing is gathered on the city page.
The lower starting prices for Liverpool Hope student accommodation cluster in the streets around the two cathedrals, with one low-cost building right beside the Creative Campus.
How many days you spend at the Creative Campus, and how many out at Hope Park, is the best guide to the right neighbourhood.
The Mystudenthalls.com guide to the best student areas in Liverpool goes further into each district.
Hope’s Creative Campus is at the junction of Islington and Shaw Street (L6 1HP), less than a mile from Lime Street station, according to the university’s How to find us page. All the listed properties can be reached on foot. Unity Square is on the same street, while Capital Gate, iQ Great Newton House and Fontenoy Apartments are a walk of about 10 to 15 minutes. Glassworks is a walk of about 15 to 20 minutes, and Haigh Court and Hope Street are about 20 minutes away. From Fusion Liverpool, Cathedral Campus and Agnes Jones House it is a walk of about 25 to 30 minutes, or a short ride on one of the buses that stop near the campus, which Hope lists as the 13, 17, 18, 21, 23 and 101. These walk times are Mystudenthalls.com estimates, rounded to five minutes.
None of the listed properties is near Hope Park, which sits on Taggart Avenue in Childwall (L16 9JD), close to Queens Drive at the end of the M62. The rooms on the Hope Park campus belong to the university and are booked through Hope; Mystudenthalls.com does not list them.
Living centrally and studying at Hope Park works well by bus. Hope says the 86C runs direct to Taggart Avenue, the 75 stops on Woolton Road and the 79C and 79D stop at Childwall Fiveways, and it puts the 75 or 86C ride from the city centre at approximately 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. The Hope Street Theatre’s visitor information lists the 75 and 86C among the buses that stop near Hope Street, with stops on Hardman Street and Mount Pleasant, which suits residents of Hope Street and Haigh Court. Stagecoach revised the 86 timetable from 30 August 2026, so check the current version before you rely on it.
Hope’s free shuttle gives students in the northern buildings a second route. From Unity Square, Capital Gate, iQ Great Newton House or Fontenoy Apartments, walk to the Creative Campus and pick up the shuttle to Hope Park, which runs on weekdays in the daytime during term. Broadgreen is the nearest station to Hope Park at just over a mile, with no direct bus, though the 61, 81 and 81A run along Queens Drive, a short walk from campus.
Aigburth Park, on St Michael’s Road (L17 7JQ) off Aigburth Road, is a residential campus that houses just over 200 students, according to Hope. It offers university accommodation only, and Mystudenthalls.com has no private listings nearby. The shuttle links it with Hope Park and the Creative Campus, and St Michael’s station, less than 500 metres away, has frequent trains into the city centre.
Buses link the centre with Hope Park. Hope points students to Queen Square bus station for services towards Childwall Valley Road and Woolton Road, including the 86C, which runs direct to Taggart Avenue. Lime Street, less than a mile from the Creative Campus, is the station to use when you arrive at the start of term or head home for the holidays.
Hope funds a free shuttle on weekday daytimes during term, linking Hope Park, the Creative Campus and Aigburth Park. The university runs a peak timetable and a lighter one for quieter periods such as reflective weeks, has published a September timetable for 2026/27 ahead of the full service, and asks passengers to be at the stop at least ten minutes early. You show your student ID card to board, and the bus only stops at the points on the timetable.
If you drive, Hope charges £2 for all-day visitor parking, payable in cash, has limited spaces at the Creative Campus and Aigburth Park, and encourages students to apply for a parking permit.
Fusion Liverpool’s listing says rooms come with bills included, covering electricity and gas, water and wifi. iQ Great Newton House states that all bills are covered, contents insurance included, and Fontenoy Apartments, Cathedral Campus and Glassworks also advertise inclusive rent. For the other listings, confirm what the weekly price covers before you book. A TV Licence, if you need one, is a separate cost unless your provider says otherwise; you need it to watch or record live TV or to use BBC iPlayer, and the government’s press release Cost of TV licence fee set for 2026/27 confirms the fee rose by £5.50 to £180 a year from 1 April 2026.
Across the listings you can choose between studios, en-suite rooms and rooms with a shared bathroom.
From 1 May 2026, most assured tenancies in England’s private rented sector became periodic rather than fixed term. Tenancies granted on or after that date by private purpose-built providers that belong to the approved ANUK/Unipol code sit outside that regime under the Student Accommodation (Miscellaneous Provisions) (England) Regulations 2026, and can still be fixed contracts for the academic year. Read the contract length on each listing, and ask the provider whether its building is covered by the code.
Under the Tenant Fees Act 2019, a provider in England can take a holding deposit of no more than one week’s rent, and a tenancy deposit of no more than five weeks’ rent where the annual rent is under £50,000. Your provider might not ask for a full deposit at all, so check its payment terms before you commit.
Whether you need a UK guarantor is subject to each provider’s eligibility rules. The Hope Street listing says it now accepts international guarantors. If you are an international student without a UK guarantor, a provider may offer a paid guarantor service or the option to pay rent in advance, so check the property before booking, and ask about instalment dates if you would sooner spread the rent across the year.
Full-time students are exempt from council tax, and a household where everyone is a full-time student pays nothing. A mixed household, where someone living there is not a full-time student, may still get a bill, with a discount available.
Hope Street, which runs between the Metropolitan and Anglican cathedrals, won the Academy of Urbanism’s Great Street Award in 2013, according to the Academy, and its theatres, restaurants and bars are a few minutes from Haigh Court and the Hope Street building. Downhill from there, Bold Street and the Ropewalks bring cafés, independent shops and late bars within reach of Fusion Liverpool and Cathedral Campus. The Creative Campus side of the centre puts Lime Street and the main shopping streets within walking distance, while Hope Park has its own gym, library and restaurants, according to the university. Hope Students’ Union represents students across all three campuses. The 10 properties on Mystudenthalls.com that suit Hope students have starting prices from £105.00 to £175.00 a week, with an average listed price of £145.02. For context, HEPI and Unipol found that the largest private providers in Liverpool averaged £140 a week over a 46-week let in 2023/24, with annual rent up 10% on 2021/22.
When this page was last updated, the lowest starting price was on Catharine Street in the Georgian Quarter, where Agnes Jones House starts at £105.00 a week. Shaw Street and the Hope Street Quarter were next, with Unity Square from £133.00 and Haigh Court from £128.25.
For the Creative Campus, Shaw Street, the Knowledge Quarter and Fontenoy Street are all a walk of 15 minutes or less. For Hope Park, live near the Hope Street bus stops or in a northern building close to the shuttle at the Creative Campus. Aigburth Park has university accommodation only.
Take the 86C direct to Taggart Avenue, the 75 to Woolton Road, or the 79C or 79D to Childwall Fiveways. Hope puts the 75 or 86C ride at approximately 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. You can also walk to the Creative Campus and take the free shuttle.
Hope’s shuttle page asks you to show your student ID card to board and sets no condition about where you live, so a Hope student in a private building can use it. It runs between Hope Park, the Creative Campus and Aigburth Park on weekday daytimes during term and stops only at campus points, so you walk to the nearest campus first. During induction, the driver will let you on before you have collected your card.
None of the listings on Mystudenthalls.com is near Hope Park. The rooms on campus there are run by the university. Living centrally and using the 86C, the 75 or the shuttle from the Creative Campus is the practical alternative.
Only if they would prefer it. Hope guarantees all first-year students accommodation on campus, and first years who want to live in the centre can book any of the listed properties. Hope’s international pages say its campus rooms are available to students over 18, so younger students should check their options with the university and ask private providers about their own age rules.
It depends on the listing. Fusion Liverpool’s covers electricity and gas, water and wifi, and iQ Great Newton House adds contents insurance. A TV Licence, if you need one, costs £180 a year from 1 April 2026 and is a separate cost unless your provider says otherwise.
Full-time students are exempt, and a household where everyone is a full-time student pays nothing. A mixed household, where someone living there is not a full-time student, may still get a bill, and a discount may be available.
The Tenant Fees Act 2019 caps a holding deposit at one week’s rent and a tenancy deposit at five weeks’ rent where annual rent is under £50,000. Some providers ask for less or no full deposit, so check the payment terms.
That is subject to each provider’s eligibility rules. International students may be offered a paid guarantor service or the option to pay rent in advance, and the Hope Street listing says it accepts international guarantors. Check the property before you book.
Lengths vary by property and room type. Private purpose-built providers in the approved ANUK/Unipol code can still offer fixed academic-year contracts after 1 May 2026, so read the contract length on each listing.
Self-contained studios, en-suite rooms in shared flats, and non-en-suite rooms with a shared bathroom. Agnes Jones House and Cathedral Campus offer all three.
Purpose-built buildings control who comes in, and the listings describe their own security. iQ Great Newton House describes 24/7 security and Fontenoy Apartments on-site security, and each listing sets out its own entry and staffing arrangements, so read that section before you book
